Long Beach West Habitat Restoration

Posted in Agency News, Recovery Projects/Awards by on April 26, 2011

US Fish and Wildlife Service LogoU.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) received $909,000 in Recovery funds to remove 37 unoccupied cottages and help restore nearly 35 acres of beach and dune habitat, at Long Beach West in Stratford, Connecticut. Work first began in early 2010, and paused from March 15 through September 15, 2010 to not disturb the federally protected nesting birds.  The demolition of the cottages was completed in April 2011, and habitat restoration is now ongoing.
